Resumen
Tratamiento

Abstract
Treatment

A better management of complications associated to liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension has led to a significant decrease of their mortality.

Hemorrhage

Bleeding from esophageal varices is one of the most severe medical emergencies; an early diagnosis is required in order to start prompt treatment.

Ascites

It is the most common complication of cirrhotic patients, easily managed during early stages and of great complexity in patients who meet criteria for refractory ascites with or without impaired kidney function.

Hepatic encephalopathy

Diagnosis will be mainly based on clinical suspicion and ruling out a justifiable underlying organic cause is compulsory. Management is easy by treating the triggering causes, as well as taking specifically targeted measures.
