El dolor abdominal es uno de los motivos más frecuentes de consulta en el Servicio de Urgencias, y puede deberse a una causa quirúrgica o médica. Resulta fundamental para su diferenciación una buena historia clínica, complementada con estudios de laboratorio e imagen que deben emplearse de forma dirigida y juiciosa. En esta actualización se exponen las pautas generales de manejo del abdomen agudo orientado desde la anamnesis, pruebas complementarias y tratamiento según la gravedad, así como los principales grupos de patologías en función de la presentación clínica y el mecanismo etiopatogénico.
