Abstract

Hepatic hypoperfusion, whether secondary to tissue hypoperfusion or due to hepatic artery or portal vein thrombosis, can produce ischemic hepatitis or hepatic infarction. The diagnosis of ischemic hepatitis is suspected in patients with sepsis or cardiac or respiratory failure with a very significant transaminase elevation. Hepatic infarction is diagnosed radiologically. The most common cause of ischemic cholangiopathy in patients with liver transplantation is hepatic artery thrombosis.
